Research Programmer — June 2005 to present
Develop web-based applications to improve efficiency in Human Resources and Financial processes. In addition, act as liaison to other departments on campus who express interest in using applications developed by NCSA.
Accomplishments include:
- Developed improved, more portable version of Vacation Sick Leave application, including administrative and manager interfaces. New design has proven highly successful and has been adopted by several other units on campus with minimal re-coding needed to accommodate other hardware and database platforms.
- Implemented online system for tracking NCSA project-related personnel, goals, milestones, documentation, and financial resources.
- Created monthly phone bill data application to allow staff to review phone data for personal calls.

Design, create and maintain multiple websites for various groups and professors within the department. Research, coordinate and implement departmental moves between software packages. Manage Linux/Apache web server and multiple domains and hosts, and supervise department web team.
Accomplishments include:
- Redesigned and improved Integrated Pest Management website (ipm.uiuc.edu.) Improvements led to site traffic increasing from a total of 3,000 hits for the entire year to over 26,000 unique visitors per month in less than 3 years.
- Researched and developed plan for efficient maintenance of departmental website, successfully presented plan to management, and implemented system using ColdFusion and PostgreSQL. System included web interface with interactive applications to allow staff to manage their own data, freeing web development staff to concentrate on programmatic issues.
- Increased departmental web presence from 3 sites to over 20 sites, and created new user interfaces that resulted in rapid increases in site traffic across all sites, varying from 20% - 400% in a single year.
- Successfully migrated web server from a single, Windows desktop machine to a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server system with multiple web front-ends, a separate database server, and a system for handling backups.
